We believe good software begins with understanding the problem.

Abacus is a Canadian software development agency founded by Richard Maurice. We help businesses build custom applications, SaaS products, internal tools, and AI-powered solutions without having to build or manage a complete internal development team.

Our work begins before development. We help clients clarify what they need, understand what they do not need, evaluate risks, and choose the shortest responsible path to meaningful business value.

We work across industries because our specialty is not a particular type of software. It is understanding complex business problems and turning them into solutions people can confidently use.

Led by Richard Maurice

Richard Maurice, founder of Abacus

Richard Maurice is a software engineer, AI solutions architect, and founder of Abacus, with more than 20 years of experience building software and helping organizations solve practical business problems.

He founded Abacus on a simple belief: businesses shouldn’t have to work around their software. Technology should simplify operations, reduce manual work, connect information, and help people make better decisions.

Today, Richard helps businesses move AI beyond experimentation by connecting it to their data, workflows, software, and existing systems. He leads a complete product development team that brings together business strategy, UX, architecture, development, quality assurance, AI, automation, and ongoing support.

His role is to make complex technology decisions easier to understand, identify where software and AI can create meaningful value, and ensure clients invest in the right solution.

Our promise

We make software simple.

That means explaining decisions clearly, keeping the work visible, focusing the budget on what matters, and remaining accountable after the product launches.
